Nathan, alias Nepr, belongs to that generation of artists who blend technical rigor with unbridled imagination. Based between Gap, Grenoble, and Paris, he has shaped a unique graphic universe where tradition meets experimentation. Through his compositions, he reinvents the codes of neo-traditional tattooing by infusing them with a personal sensibility, a subtle sense of humor, and an almost scientific attention to texture and contrast.
His work is first distinguished by a strong sense of drawing. Each piece, whether small-scale or large-scale, bears witness to a pronounced taste for structure, coherence, and visual rhythm. The lines are sharp, the flat colors perfectly balanced, but always at the service of a narrative. For Nepr, a motif is never purely decorative: it tells a story, it connects, it settles into the skin like a fragment of a narrative. Floral compositions sit alongside animal symbols, repurposed everyday objects, or references to popular culture, all carried by a palette that oscillates between deep black, muted tones, and bold colors, often used in strokes to emphasize movement.
The artist draws inspiration as much from American traditional tattooing as from organic and surrealist universes. Some projects evoke the aesthetics of old craftsmanship, with a fidelity to whip shading and bold outlines, while others explore more abstract textures, close to biomechanical or bio-organic styles, where the skin becomes living, moving matter. This duality between order and chaos, between rigor and impulse, runs through his entire work.
Always on the move, Nathan takes on numerous guest spots and collaborations, notably in Grenoble, Paris, or Lyon, where he shares his expertise and feeds his perspective through contact with other artists. He conceives of tattooing as an exchange, a meeting of intentions: each client brings an idea, a fragment of personality that the artist translates into imagery with great listening and methodical precision. This collaborative approach gives his pieces a rare emotional depth and authenticity.
In parallel, he regularly produces hand-drawn flashes, available in black and grey or color, which he approaches as true graphic works. His sheets reflect his joy for pure drawing: experimenting, revisiting, daring deformation, caricature, or the unexpected detail. Far from repetition, each motif becomes a pretext to explore texture and movement.
What is ultimately striking about Nepr is this quiet mastery, this way of alternating between highly structured creations and free experimentation without ever losing the coherence of his universe. His work reflects a search for balance: between tradition and modernity, between the steady hand of the tattooist and the insatiable curiosity of the creator. Through his pieces, Nathan Prunet confirms that a tattoo can be simultaneously technical, expressive, and deeply human—a mark designed to last as much in time as in memory.
